| I thought I fixed that! Rear Main et al. I was under the rig the other day pulling out the driveshaft and brake drum when I noticed a leak. Aside from the one when I pulled the rear shaft out!!The dust shield at the flywheel seems to be a little saturated with motor oil. F&*%!!!!!
I replaced this seal (twice) before I dropped the engine in. I did not have the fortitude to pull the bearing cap when I had the pan off to replace the oil pan gasket. :(
I've put maybe 100 miles on this thing, now I'm thinking I should pull the freakin' tranny/transfer and pan to replace that SOB before I soak my clutch plate.
So, while I'm in there... what else???
new oil pan gasket will be needed as I permatexed the crap out of the cork gasket. should I not do that again?
New rear main needed I used napa last time.(oem this time!)
Should I break apart the transfer case and tranny for new seals?
I need a new one if front of the speedo-gear housing as it also leaks
Any advice here? as always thanks for your input guys

| Maybe it is not the seal that is leaking.
There is an oil galley plug and a cam plug at the back of the engine that are notorious leak sources. Sometimes you can make an educated guess depending on where it is dripping from: If oil is slinging radially off the flywheel, the main seal is leaking. If it is dripping off the passenger side rear main cap bolt, then the cam plug is leaking. If it is leaking off the drivers side bolt, the oil galley plug is leaking. |

| Thanks Pin head,
I just got off the phone with Dan in Rockville and he also suggested that my pan-gasket could be the culpert. I did use a liberal amount of gasket sealant on that thing to keep it in place. I'm going to pull the flywheel cover off and inspect it all. I will try and retighten the pan again and see if that helps as well. I need to call the toyota dealer for a new rear gasket on that transfer todayas well.

| Leak You don't happen to be using synthetic oil? I hear that stuff will find every leak there is! |

| Also check the rear of you're oil pan...
I had one with a hairline crack where the corner turns out.
Same thing; thought I fixed it a number of times and here we go again.
Finally I dumped some a/c dye in the oil, drove to work and back, lo and behold, there's that sob...
