Well, I'm new around here and this is my first look at this thread. . .
but "Snotz"? no no no no no. . .
With that color, and considering the direction your build is going. . .
. . .I christen thee " SWAMP THING"
Hmmm. . .you've got a 104" wheelbase now. Seeing as you've turned it into an FJ43, you need the longer body tub to match.

May be I missed this part of the thread, but why didn't you blast all the rust of the frame before the build?
I wish I had your fab skills though.

Boerboel303,
I wanted to get all the fabbing done first, ensuring everything was going to fit the way I wanted it and then get it blasted and painted. I may be going at bass-ackwards, but that is reasoning
p.s. be safe over there and Thank You!!!!!!
Bigslug,
Maybe if I lived in the Southeast I would go with "Swamp Thing", but here in the dry Southwest (no swamps ) and since I have allergies, I think I will keep the name "Snotz"!!

what drivetrain setup are you using? 700R4/adapter/split case? what are you doing to get the gearing lower? are you still plan on doing dual mini cases? it would seem that there would be not enough length to do dual cases? With the R4 / split, how long do you think your driveshaft will be? Asking all of this as I plan to do something similar in the future on my 40, definetly want an auto!

Sorry to hijack but why are you wanting the auto Noah? I was thinking of doing the NV4500 and I really like your set up.

Yo Lumpy!!!
I didn't think you came over here anymore. I have been working on Wyatt's car, "Sully". Getting close to finishing that little project, then on to the next. Hope to have mine done by spring????
Noah,
I ditched the dual mini set-up, I am running a TH350 with an AA adapter to a single mini case with a twin stick. I will be going to a 4:1 gear set in the t-case in the future. With the dual case set-up my drive shaft was 20", it is a double cardan joint DS. The floor space was the problem, I did not want to cut the crap out of the floor. As it is, I am cutting the floor about 3" give or take. Like you, I want the ease of an auto trans, my knees are not what they used to be
Thanks for the thread revival guys!

Yeah I still get over here once in a while to monitor the FJC stuff, you need to get *something* done so we can hit the trails again, its only been what, 6 or 7 years?

Well, I am pretty much finished with my sons car (still needs a clutch ), so now I am back working on my own junk. Got to have 1 cruiser running, right?? Feels pretty good working on it again.
I scored a tub from Wasabi, cut it up, sold off what I did not need and kept the floor and firewall. I cut out the cancerous floor today with the plasma, again what a time saver. I know it has been a long time away, because within 15 minutes of starting to cut out the floor, I started a fire under the cruiser. I had stored a front axle under the cruiser, it had some towels covering (key word "had"), anyway they caught on fire and I was under the cruiser smacking the flames with my gloves to put it out. Whew, that is the most fire I have seen in a while!!! The wife just gave me the look of, your such an idiot
Okay, pics of todays progress.

A couple of more. Once the floor is in, I will be installing the late model firewall.

I removed the firewall today and started prepping the joint areas of the tub (flapper disc and self etching primer) for re-assembly. The new firewall has been prepped for install, as well as the new floor. I hope to have the tub back together by Friday.

You do some really nice fab work. What are you using to cut out your hangers from that box tubing? The cuts look so straight and clean.

Thanks, I use a chop saw and/or an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel. If need be, I will use the plasma. Unfortunately I have not gotten any time in the garage to finish my floor and firewall. So its on the back burner once again

Eric, I used .250 wall, I figured it would stand up to a little rock beating from time to time.

It seems I remember those exact same pictures but the sheetmetal surrounding the drivetrain was tan instead of green...

I have gotten the new firewall and floor welded in and am getting the frame ready for sand blast. I am making progress, slow and steady wins the race, so get off my back, Lumpy.

If I was on your back your spine would be reduced to powder... and you have the slow nailed down!

Found the pics of the new firewall and floor. After a lot of fitting trial and error, I was able to weld it in place. A nice improvement over the old floor, this one has only minor surface rust. Now the body work begins!!

One more of the firewall and dash. A pic of my new tilt steering column out of an 89 Trans Am. Got it from pick a part over the labor day 1/2 off weekend, paid $15.00 for it!!! Grabbed a Taurus fan while I was there, too.

I have been taking baby steps on this project lately, but it has been progress (so get off my A$$ Terry ). Today, I fabbed up my new mount to install my new tilt column and bolted on the new 13" steering wheel. The Art Carr shifter with one of their new modified shift gates showed up on the door step while I was at work. Now to figure out where it is going to be mounted. I will need to allow room for the twin stick for the t-case.

Today I put the body back down on the frame. In order to do that, I had to clearance the floor. Since this is my new floor, I made a tester cut around my e-brake disc and trimmed as little as possible. I then had to stretch my new trans cover 3". I had an old cowl in the garage, so I cut out a 3"x15" strip to use as my filler. After getting the bends pretty close I tacked it together, flapper disc the welds down and added a little primer. I still need to finish the edges and drill some mounting holes to keep it to the floor.
