Are these door handle pulls original? I have only seen the plastic strap type. I am not familiar with the early stuff.

I agree, handles look like a cheap add-on but pretty sure they're stock. Have em on my 73' Looking forward to following your build

The official "deconstruction" has begun, got home from work this morning and starting removing the motor trans and t-case. They will be going to a new home this Sunday or the next. With the motor out, next I will be removing the steering mount pedestal, shock towers and front shackles and hangers. I will be able to address the frame issue (crack), box the frame and weld in my PS mounting plate I purchased from Georg about a year ago (I guess it is about time I use it

). Here are some photos from today.

Those handles are stock. My '64 doors have them.

yeah, a couple of my sets of early doors have them too, not sure what year any of them are from, so i couldn't tell you if they were stock for all early doors or not...

No, I had help available on Monday, so we went ahead and pulled the motor. Thanks, though. As for Oreo, all this time I thought he was color blind.

I got a couple of hours work in this AM, I pulled the shock towers, center arm, steering column, steering pedestal mount off the frame. AAARGH!!!! I hate rivets!!!!

Anyone need early steering gear????

I was able to get some work on the cruiser today, Eeeyore came by and helped remove rivets and brackets. We got the motor mounts, shackles and hangers, and front axle/springs removed. I will be addressing the cracked frame next, and will hopefully have the shackle reverse and spring over done this weekend. Here are some photos from the days progress.

Okay, I have been boring everyone with pics of me taking Snotz apart. Well today, I finally got to start some fab work.

I used 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 x .250 square tubing for my front spring hangers and cut and fit my power steering bracket. With everything out of the way, I ground the PO's hit and miss welds on the cracked frame horn to see what the heck was actually there to work with. The frame horn needed straightening and rewelding, and worked out very well, despite welding in the wind!!! The hangers are temporarily bolted to the frame to allow for some adjustment when I do the shackle end of the project. It is going to be a busy week for me, so it will have to wait until next weekend. The frame will get boxed and the power steering mounting bracket will all be welded up next weekend as well. Anyway, the pics tell the story better than I can........

nice fab work tony...my 63 fj45 swb has those same door pulls..i thought the po had some extra cabinet hardware around and needed a place to install it...must be stock...

I just wish I could put more time into this thing and get it done, it has been a while since I have been out wheeling. I have been following all the restorations and rebuilds on here and it keeps me inspired to finish this one.

This thread needs a faster builder. we havent hit the trails in what, 5 or 6 years Tony? I miss the good old times of you spotting me into a side flop, or chopping your thumb off with a hatchet in camp & running to the ER... ahhh, those were the days!

I have been really busy this past 2 weeks with work and instructing at the academy. My wife and kids are telling me the same thing, it has been far too long since we have wheeled. I am trying to get some time on it Saturday and hopefully Tuesday.

Oh, by the way, where is my bender stand????????????

Nor Cal.. it likes the view up there better than Hemet. It didnt want to go back to OC because it was severely neglected there. When we go out next I'll bring a duller hatchet, I hope you dont teach Axe safety at the academy!
