crankshaft pulley key removal

hey y'all,

i'm about knee deep in rebuilding my '83 2F and have been using the service manual and mud as my guide, especially degnol and other's rebuild threads...

i've got a question that i can't find with the search, maybe i'm just using the wrong terms...

how do i get the crankshaft pulley 'key' out of the shaft? i've tried gripping it with pliers covered with a latex glove so i don't booger up the edges, but no dice. i can get it to move out about 1/16 inch, that's it.

any tricks or something i'm missing?

in the service manual it looks like there is a slot in the key for using a screwdriver to knock it out...but i've got no slot.

thanks y'all,

malphrus

got it out.

used a cutwheel and cut a slot in the end and knocked it out using a screwdriver and mallet. should be able to reuse it when i start to reassemble the engine.

hope this helps out somebody down the line.

Yup, Poser, it did. Great tip... Mine was stuck tighter than Bill Gates' rectum, but some VGs and a little flame and some PB Blaster and some persuasive whacking from an angry plastic mallet and she came ! (out). Gentle heat and blaster to the gear (and a few hours wait) and off that came too without too much cussin'!

Now, does the key for the crankshaft gear have to come out before going to the machinist?
