| >>>Seats<<< So what's the best choices for changing out the front seats on the 40?? I know, I know, I should stay with the original....
I'm 6'4" and there aint a whole lot of leg room. The seats are rather wheathered, a 76 and I'm quite sure their original. Anyway, I'm tall and the originals just arn't comphy |

Again, as it was in my 40 when I bought it 2nd hand I can't say what the seats came out of. I bought another 40 which the PO attempted to put in Hilux seats, you can kinda see em in this pic..
but they were mounted off center and not very well.. the PO butchered the floor to try and put in mounts for them. |

| You can flip your drivers side rear seat braket around and get a couple of inches of leg room. CCOT sells the kit for about $40. Once you get it you will kick yourself in the butt. (I sure did) It is a couple of pieces of metal and directions on how to flip your rear brackets around.
I'm taveling on the road and will be home this weekend 1/27. PM me if you want to see the brackets. I'll take picture of them and post them here.
If you look at D'Animal Rig Of The Week (ROTW under the 40&55 section) you can see the picture of the seats I run. They are A1C wide back racing seats. They sell for about $150 at summit racing. |

| We have been test driving different newer rigs and I think the OEM seats in my 75 are more comfy than most of the newer rigs we tried. Definetly better than the the new 4runners.
I think you should try moving the seats back before you invest in new ones. They can be re-skined/rebuilt easily, factory style covers and foam cores are available from $pector.

| I have Honda Civic seats in mine. I mounted them to the stock seat frames. I mounted them back aways, and now I have a ton of leg room. They are so much more comfortable than the stock seats. However, it is a bit different since mine is a 71 and had the bench seat originally.
You can always try the FAQs here - *** F A Q *** FREQUENTLY ** ASKED ** QUESTIONS *** F A Q *** (updated 28 JUL 09 )
And then click on Aftermarket Front Seat options - Aftermarket seats.....
Good luck! |

| A think a lot of VWs run recaro seats....you might be able to pick some up off in a for sale forum over on vwvortex.com or vwforum.com. Also, do a search for Halogrinder's build thread (here or on pirate4x4 as well). He got some seats out of a wrecked tiburon (hyundai) and they look really nice. |

| Ive had a set of junkyard Saab seats in my rig for a few years, they just dont hold up to the abuse that an open top truck gets..
My next set will be PRP's http://www.prpseats.com/ |

| I really like stock seats too, but they really can't compete with the adjustability of the recaros. That power lumbar is niiice on a long day of wheeling. |

| Volvo seats work fine. Most are leather and heated.

| go around and sit in as many seats as possible and see what you like. remember, what's comfortable to someone else may not be to you, but it's your ass that has to sit in it.

| Here is a pic of my seats they are out of a Saab 93.
They are leather and really adjustable. Remember you can gain leg room two ways, by moving the seat backwards, and also by moving the seat up vertically.
Only thing I would change is I would have held out for heated seats.
Got them for 100 bucks at a bone yard. Easy as pie to install.. actually I've never made a pie, but how hard can that be?
