got alot done on friday night... MILLHOUSE stopped over about 6 and we worked until 1:30 AM or so. there was a few drank and some stories told but for the most part we worked pretty steady the whole time.....

got all the knuckles put back on for the 1000th time with all new "L" connectors. got the calipers drilled and tapped for the larger bolt. the rest of the brake lines put together and bleed them out. everything went really well and no leaks at all.... so I got brakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was very happy to be done with this whole brake deal and I can move on with the rest of my life now...

no pics you have all seen them a 100 times... probably take a few once I repaint everything...

then we moved on to the 4Runner as I needed to adjust the rear brakes, fix the parking brake, and take the hubs apart and re grease them...

pic 1- hub off, taking off snap ring, mine were very very clean, probably because this is or has been a soccer mom truck its whole life, I am almost sure this has never been taken apart before in its life time. all gaskets looked good so I was able to reuse them all..

pic 2 - showing the little spring and ball bearing inside... when you take the red part off be really careful you dont loose these... they may be under pressure and spring out.

pic 3 spring under the ball bearing

Pic 4- just showing the stopping points

Pic 5- grease up this rubber seal well... make sure not to crush it when you are putting it back in the housing... I had to turn it back and forth to make sure it was in there and together correctly.

now just put back together.... I always put them in the "free" postion that way you can put the spring back on there all the way tight.. just seems easier I guess for me

pic 6- threw 4Runner on the lift

pic 7- you can see the bolts you have to put in the drum and tighten to get the cover of the drum off.. we put plenty of liquid wrench on there (oh and probably had a cocktail while that soaked in )

pic 8- cover off and cleaned out... just used air, it had alot of brake dust in there so make sure not to breath that in or get it in your eyes... and not in your glass either

pic 9- take off the bracket that is suppose to be free and move but frozen up, you have to remove a spring and it is just hooked in there...

pic 10- remove cable (small pin, mine was rusted off) and pull out bracket

pic 11- put in vise, spray with lots and lots of liquid wrench, (wish I would have had heat also) but just start working the bracket back and forth... we had to use a hammer at first. (make sure not to hit too hard as you will break them) I bet we worked them for a good 20 min each... they should be loose enough that they will fall on their own... you will be able to tell for sure, keep in mind that he spring has to have enough tension to retract them.

put them all back together same as you pulled them apart, pull on cable and hear the clicking sound... that will be your rear brakes adjusting themselves.

throw a pizza in the pizza oven and drink the rest of the night...

Thanks MILLHOUSE!!!!

got the carb bolted up on there and started it up last night... ran like a top!!!!! I was very happy!! Thanks again Jim!!!!

MILLHOUSE and I also figured out how we are going to run that power stearing... We did find a belt in the stuff Steve left at my house but it is too wide.... good thing is we know the length.... so most of the guessing is done... going to take my radiator off and change all the hoses as I got new ones...

ohh yea......... I need a side cover gasket... the one the engine builder put on he over tighten and wrecked it... going to order one of those today....

I was a good day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cool

Great news on the carb! I hope to be firing my Jim C. carb up in a couple of weeks.

On the side cover: If it was overtightened, you may need to hammer out the 'dimples' around the bolt holes. I did on mine...

Friday night went like this... MILLHOUSE showed up at maybe 8 with a cooler full of ............ we were waiting for parts from Steve who was suppose to be coming up that evening late... pulled Steves truck out of the shop so we could pull MILLOUSE's truck in and put on a new winch fairlead that Steve got for him... not sure where he got it, but it is cool as hell... made out of anodized alum and made to look like a fj40 bezel... super cool...

pic 1 old fairlead on his bumper (which is now mine!!! )

pic 2 before we put it on

pic3 on

this is sadly all we got done in about 8 hours of time we spent together (we did pull my hinges off so MILLHOUSE could take them and un stuck them for me ).... well we did make some obscene phone calls and drank until 3:30 AM.... then I had to work at my dads house on saturday morning... it was a long day... thank god it rained..... Then i went to a bar with my friends... we got kicked out of there for fighting......... but I dont really know the whole story because I had too many to drink... all I remember saying is "mind your own business old man before I break your hip!" I blame the wiskey!!!

Had a great 4th of July weekend.. pretty much spent the weekend in the boat or at the lake. Had a few buddy's that are in the military home for the events so it was good to see them and hear theirs stories from where ever they were.

Steve and Miller stopped by on Monday and we got a few things done, I wanted to run the engine while those guys were there but I did not have enough anti freeze so we just got things ready to run. had to cut the fan shroud so clear the power steering. got all the belts hooked up and put it all back together... I had to use two spacers on the fan so it would clear the power steering.

well I got home yesterday with the additional anti freeze poured it all in and buttoned up the rest of what I needed to do to fire this up again.

So I let it run for a good 10 min or so and the temp went up to about where it was suppose to go and then stayed there so I was happy that was working properly. however there must be a HOLE in my radiator because there is a small leak coming from the fins... so as with all my luck on this project nothing can just be done on the first try, so as soon as I figure out what I am going to do I will pull that out again...

Power stearing did seem to work just fine... only really drove it to the end of the driveway and back... breaks also worked...

My friend and I are going to be flying his plane up the North Shore of Lake Superior this weekend to meet up with a bunch of friends up there but as of next week I want to start going on this body work again....

a few pics of what that looks like now...

Talk to you guys soon!!

Cool

Congrats on getting that thing running! Must have been some GREAT whiskey to get him to pay you $500 for that body...

Your friend with the plane happen to own a beautiful FJ40LV, a FJ45, a Ford Roadster and a twin cylinder motorcycle?
