and today. got some done.
started working on the front shock mounts. using the ford mounts, i figured the max uptravel and set the mounts to that. also added a gusset to the back of it. i got half of it burnt in but then relized that i still havent got the steering box so i stoped.

start of the rear gusset. was on some funky angle so it was PITA to make

and welded to the back of the mount. should make it strong. hopfully it isnt in the way of the steering box.

so after stoping on the shock mounts. i turned my attention to the floor again. i needed to finish up the center hump.
i took some quick measurments and started cutting. i got the basic shape here.

had to make a little step down so it would fit under the seat bars.

and here it is sitting in place.

and the clearence between the tranny and the new hump section.

and the starting of the front part. this was hard. lots of bends and welds to make it fit just right. also cut the holes for the shifters.

and a top shot.

damn, even after measuring like 30 times i still managed to miss cut the hole. its close, but not perfect. you can also see that i made this into two pieces. as i found after i put the front pieces in, i couldnt take the damn thing out without taking out the cage. so i cut it now its easy to remove and will still be strong and sealed.

Why yes, yes I am a stud
Got the ARP upgrade knuckles studs. was going to do all 6 but figured 4 per knuckle along with the two stock ones was enough,. I also got a spindle stud kit, as I always hate trying to align everything up during installs, and trail repairs, and these really help out.

oh, and NO, i am not trying to copy crane with the green shit. i was first at this i have an issue with that color as seen here on my DD.

close up of the clearance. also, notice that super nice custom pitman arm need a flat one so i welded that up. (this is for mock up only, i have a flat one on order.

here is a pic of it some what flexed up. i will have to set the bump stop here as it is almost hitting the spring pack

now, with box where it was going to be, i needed to add some extra material to the top of the frame. made this real quick.

then fully welded.

next up was making the sleaves for the frame. simple tubing and a big drill bit

now fully installed. also did the steering shaft. looks like this will work out nicly.

ok, got some work done today
figurd i would finished up this thing. needed to close up that damn hole. so i made a simple plate out of some SS then painted it

also got the new flat pitman arm installed. looks like it will work perfect

i put the fenders, grill and hood on so i could see where things where going to sit. i was tired of redoing things so fingured i would get this installed and work around it
made up a front grill mount. since this thing is on a different chassis i needed a spacer to have it sit right.

and a close up. just a simple set up. i welded three pieces of tubing to the winch plate (which will be fully welded on later) and a small pice of rec tubing on top. i will also have a piece of rubber on top of this to act as flex zone.

and a overall shot boy its ppuuurrdy

wasnt feeling all too well. so didnt get much done.
oh well.

Well, got the minitruck brake booster and MC bolted up. fit in the stock holes. Was soo nice: D. needs some cleaning
Also bolted up the FJ40 clutch MC hope it will work with the mini truck tranny.

Worked on making up a rad mount. was having creative difficulties so this is what I came up with (if you have any better ides, please let me know )
Simple rec tubing thin wall stuff. welded up a simple frame. was going to weld this right on the frame, but realized that it would be a bitch to remove the engine, so its going to be bolt on

side shot. you can see the rear gussets.

mnnn. nice. i added a corner brace to just give it some more strength.

only got to work on the 40 for a few hours as i was building suby parts all damn weekend

finished up the rad mount, nice and paintd and got the rad mounted to it.

i drilled and tapped the frame to accecpt some normal m8 metric bolts. seems very stable.

next up was the damn shock mounts. the more i look at those ford mounts the more i dont want to use them.
first up was was adding this bar. this will attach to to the roll cage and also attached to the front hoop. This will bolt onto the tub so i can still remove the tub if i want to. i will finish up with som shock mounts maybe a cross bar, and some more supports.

just a close up. I need to buy some more of those tabs

then this happend. damn tig torch lead melted the water line and shot water all over me. so that took out the tig untill i get that fixed.

next up was mounting the fender to that new bar. it was still a little flimsy after i cut up the inner fenders. so i made up this simple bracket. (notice the mig welds, :(

after tacking it up to the fender (it uses the same two botls that the upper fender thing attaches to the fender) i looked at it, and was not happy. so i figured i would re do it
so i came up with this. much better looking and uber cool dimple too

and the back side shot

Mint build mate. How do you decide weather to use your mig or tig, the reason I ask is I only have a mig but your tig welds look super nice ( strong too ) did you use mig on your cage?

Thanks Kelvin

Well, only got a few hours to work on the truck this weekend. but, did get some stuff done.
Finished up the middle body mount.

Then the inside shot.

next up was redoing the front shock mounts i could tell from your tones that you didn’t want me to use my fancy ford mounts so out came some tubing

This is what I came up with. Just a simple piece of tube bend into a u shape and some shock tabs. this is about how it looks in the wrong position its here to just show you how cool it looks

and a shot of it in its final position. i made up a dummy shock that was at the correct length.

And a shot from under the fender. I will also add some extra supports to help support that tube.

well, got a little done today. worked mostly on the shock mounts.
got the tabs all welded up. these are 1/4" steel.

added some gussets to give added strenght.

and them fully welded up. with the shock mocked up. has about 5" of uptravel and 10 or so down

and a full shot. i will be adding a engine cage to help support those hoops.
