Temp Gauge Issue

I have a strange problem with my temp gauge, I did a search, but didn't see anyone with a similar problem. When the key is off the temp gauge is pegged, but when the key is on, it goes down to 0. When the engine warms up, it seems to read normally.

I noticed this after doing an engine swap, but I swapped one F engine for another, and kept the orginal sender from the old engine. I didn't change any wiring. It's possible it was acting this way before the swap, I only had the crusier for 2 weeks before the original engine blew out.

Any ideas?

Thanks

- Kurt

Kurt,
I believe what you are experiencing is a normal functioning cruiser temp gauge.

Mine did the same thing when I had an F, and continues to the the same w/my 2F (moved over original sending units).

Please correct me If I'm wrong...

Yep. Normal.

Good thing it's doing that, huh?

Guys,

Thanks for the info. And here I thought I was crazy! I couldn't figure out how I could have gotten anything wrong, there is only one wire to hook up. Thought maybe it was a bad ground, but now I know better.

Thanks again,

Kurt

I have a '79 and mine doesn't do anything like that. Is it a "Pre-'79" thing?
