The timing mark is a bb on the flywheel that is 7* before TDC on the compression stroke of #1 cylinder. The line right next to the bb is TDC. You get to it right above the started behind a metal window. If you have trouble seeing the bb paint it white.

Anyone step in if I told him wrong.

Do all 2F engines have a line denoting TDC? I can't find the line on my 1980 2F. Found the BB, but can't seem to locate the TDC mark. I also tried finding it by setting the distributor rotor between 3rd and 4th spark plug, closer to the 4th, per my manual. Didn't see a line but did see a rather large 'recess' in the flywheel approx 1/2in long. Is this it? Did I go too far?

Thanks.

If the "recess" was right near the bb, I would say that is it. Mine is about 1/8 wide and about 1/2 in long. If the bb in the above picture was right on the arrow, you could probably see it.
