Hello all I am NEW here and a new owner of a 1978 FJ40 I would like some help on getting a power steering system on this crusier. Like what power steering gearbox works (easy install ) and what pump to use. I can make all brackets myself. Thanks ALL... Tom

This depends on what you want your rig for.

If you are looking for easy, go mini truck power steering. The box is Solid Axle Mini Truck 1979-1985 from 4x4 toyota. IF you go that route. A FJ40/FJ60 power steering pump can be used if the engine is tapped for it. My engine isn't tapped for the FJ60 pump so I am using the saginaw pump. I got it from Rockauto.com for $52 Part #: 206823. The saginaw pump will need a mounting bracket.

You can also put FJ60 power steering in, scout power steering or OEM.
