| Bought a '78 FJ40 - New to the list After many (ad infintum) years of searching I have finally found my rig! It is an almost bone stock 79 FJ40 with very little rust to deal with. The bonus is that it only has 28,000 original miles on it. I had first spotted it one night on a church parking lot. I left my card on the windsheild mentioning my interest. This was almost 1 - 1-1/2 years ago. I would occasionly see it around but was never in a place to stop the owner. Finally about two weeks ago a lady called me saying she had kept my card and wanted to sell. It took almost a week for her husband to make it home from a trip to sign the papers. They had purchased the cruiser in 1987 from a gentleman in Houston and at that time the title indicated 20,000 miles with no roll over. The 8,000 in the last 19 years has been put on at a deer lease or by the wife ... you guessed it... driving to church! I has a few items that will need immediate attention. The front edge of the top has been hit by a low hanging limb and will need careful attention in order to straighten out. About four very small rust spots around the body, but I'm not complaining. I will post pictures later today.

| Pictures are posted First of all I need to make a correction. I got a case of happy fingers and listed the FJ as a '78. It is actually a '79. Here are left and right views. |

| Nice rig. Good to have another Texas '79. What are your plans for it, if any?

| I am in in need of tires and wheels as these are showing signs of dry rot and the rims are rusted. The suspension is extremely rough. I believe it has a 2" lift of some sort but can't say for sure. The tire on it now are 31.5s. I believe I will go back with BFG 31.5s as I will be driving this unit on the street alot during the week. I am trying to think about what to do with the suspension as well. I probably want to stay in the 2-1/2" to 3" range. Not sure of who to use yet. Sugesstions anyone? I have already ordered seat covers from CCOT as the original ones are blown. I'm also seeking out a good body man to take care of the few cancer spots. Paint and desmoging are way up on the list as well. Thanks for all of your comments. I look forward to being a part of the list. |
