Wiring 1978 Ignition in a 1975 FJ40

I am in the process of installing the coil and ignitor from a 1978 2F into my 1975 2F and am confused. (Not hard to do)

The 1978 Ignitor has 2 wires with connections coming off of it that I am not sure what to do with. Are they extra and not needed? See last picture.

Also, The 1975 Ignitor and coil had a black wire, red wire and black/yellow wires going to it. Where do they go on the 1978 set up? See pictures.

Thanks for your help. If anyone has pictures of there finsihed set up or of a 1978/1979 ignition system that would be appreciated as well.
Dave

that ignitor looks newer than 78, the 2 wires/green conectors, one is used for a tach(like in a 60) and the other does to the dizzy, forget which is which or if it makes a difference. Wonder if the ignitor is from a mini?

forget how I hooked my fj60 set up on my 66, but it was easy.....just played with it till it worked

On a 1978 ignitor, there is a dual pole connector that receives 12V power for the coil on one terminal and 12V power for the ignitor on the other terminal. Ground is through the mounting feet.

On your '75 harness, the only wire that is needed for the ignitor is the 12V+ ignition wire, connected to the two power inputs on the ignitor&coil..

Don't use the ballast bypass, not needed.

Don't use the points trigger wire, also unnecessary.

So the black/yellow wire is the only one I need. If I understand correctly, the ignition wire will connect to ignitor on the upper left (screw hole). The wire on the right screw hole of the ignitor, (already connected) goes to the positive side of the coil.

Are you installing a '78 or later distributor also?

How is your '75 points distributor going to fire your '78 ignitor?

Totally lost me there.

Crimp a female spade connector and a short piece of wire and another spade terminal to the existing 12V ignition wire. Plug it into the two power terminals of the ignitor. Done.
