Replacing 3 speed with 4 speed

I am looking to replace my three speed in my 74 fj40. I was wondering if someone could fill me in on what is involved. are there any extra parts needed? can i reuse my drive shafts?

I hear there is also some advantages of using the three speed transfer for the lower gearing.

thank..

I did this as well in my 71. As I remember it required a 2f bell housing, clutch, and flywheel. Was pretty darn straight foward. Being a pretty much a newbie myself, I may have left something out. Good luck

pretty sure either clutch will work. however you will need to use all the parts from which ever one you go with IE the flywheel, pressure plate and disc.

I completed this conversion about a year ago. You will need the 2F bellhousing, the drive shafts from a 4 speed model(front is longer, back is shorter) a bearing and gear for the transfer case( 4 speed has different spline count and diameter). I got my gear and bearing from ironpigoffroad.com in Virginia. Used a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing from 2F. Also replaced pilot bearing.
