Here is a link to how the VSC works. In my 2000 I got the VSC to scream at me on washboards and on sand doing donuts (never tried when I was in snow). When it cut in on the washboards I didn’t notice it did a whole lot, probably light braking; but when I was in the middle of a donut and it kicked in it cut engine power and applied brakes… no fun at all. Side note: every time VSC came on I was pretty hard in it and doing a decent speed.

Yes the CDL will turn off the VSC, which of course takes care of the issue of how much power is being split to which differential. I apologize for lack of info on this (I am sure someone will have more), but I remember reading that more power is delivered to the rear wheels on a regular basis (fuel economy perhaps), and transfers to the front as needed.

Bottom line... if you want more control over your auto and no VSC scream use the CDL.
