I have never heard of the 4wd light going off when going from low to high. The vacuum solenoid valves hold it in place until you manually push the button. Get under your truck while it is in park and the parking brake is on. You will know you are in 4wd hi and 4wd lo if you can not turn the front driveshaft with your hand.
