Just to restate my point,
like many have said, you can resize many ways, just about any image program will do it in some form, including a range of ones specially for that.

and yes, photobucket (etc) will resize as you upload, or once they are uploaded. Doing it this way does take a lot longer- as it uploads the large image to its software, and then resizes it... it also uses up more of your upload limit unnecessarily (if you have one).

any of these ways are fine (or better0 for individual or a few images, but if you have over 5 (say) images you want to do, or you resize images regularly (I find this boring, repetitive, and time wasting) then automator is a great thing to learn.
Its just such a simple process, you pop a pile of images in one folder, run the application, and they are all (1-999+) waiting in your resized image folder, ready to be bulk uploaded or whatever else you do with them.
If you are dropping photos into the resize folder from Iphoto, you don't have to worry about stuffing with the originals...
