Anyway, I think that's as good as you'll probably get with a 22r. I've never had a 22r leave me walking either though. Even when I put the hood under water without a snorkle, I winched out, let the water out of the intake and she fired right back up.
My truck, 92 Std Cab 4x4 22re 5sp consistently gets 22-24 on the highway and 18-21 mixed. I have stock tires and a Best Top soft top camper shell.

I never run synthetics but I keep on top of the valve specs and oil changes/lubes/gear oil changes.

I just logged 24.1 mpg this weekend going back and forth from Lexington to Louisville.

Driving style has a LOT to do with mpg. I never get over 3500 rpms to shift. Usually I am shifting right before 3000.
