the way I see it, if my pit/rott/lab/boxer mix is in the car, I don't have to worry much about leaving the windows up. She is super-friendly, but strangers don't know that. It helps that somewhere along the way she got the impression that growling was a good way to "Hi!" to people that she likes.

Seriously- when I come home she is quiet, but when just about anyone else comes to the house, she picks up a toy an starts growling at them. Confuses the heck out of people and, believe me, regardless of the squeeky toy in her mouth there are very VERY few people who are going to reach into the cruiser with her growling at them!

a kill switch is also a great idea. Once I finally get my tuffy installed, I'm thinking about adding a switch inside the tuffy. The only downside is that I would then need two keys to operate my cruiser. But odds are very slim I would lose one and not the other anyway.

I did meet someone who wired their kill switch such that you had to turn on the parking lights for the starter to work. that's pretty stealth, but also pretty obvious to anyone outside the vehicle. There are dozens of approaches that could work, but adding a kill to the fuel circuit seems like a better thing to me than the starter--- if the starter doesn't turn, I'd bet a thief will be able to jump it or find the switch. if the starter does turn, then it is there making noise and running down the battery. once the thief figures that part out, there may or may not be enough juice left to steal the car
