1. drain the tank , fill with diesel, and run the engine.
2. bring it in and have a shop drain and purge the whole fuel system.
Has anyone had this type of problem on a 1hd-t and what damage did it do.

Getting your cruiser stolen is every cruiserhead's nightmare. I sympathise.
I'd drain the tank and fuel filter. (Check the fuel from the filter first to get an idea of "how much like diesel" it is. - Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.)
Then just "purge air" from the filter and "flush most of the contaminated fuel from the injector pump" via the bleed nipples and primer pump.
(I wouldn't try doing any further "flushing" personally because I doubt you would gain anything from all the work involved.)
Then I'd just try starting it and go from there. (If it starts OK and runs - just let it idle before taking it for a drive.)
Lots of us (and I'm including myself here) have mistakenly filled out tanks with petrol at times.
IF there is damage/wear - then it has already been done and there's nothing you can do to change that. If you follow my advice above - I can't see that you would have contributed to it.
