Do NOT get the 4.8l it is underpowered and not worth it IMOP. if your gonna go newer do the 5.3. It really is an easy swap to do. It even uses teh same bellhousing adapter as the regular SBC.
It will yeild a lil better fuel miledge (dunno bout 6-8) which will varry depending on ones driving habits, gears, transmission, ect.
