I have a '89 LJ73. My #2 piston is pushing 50 lbs the rest are hitting 400+.

Is there a bolt in replacement diesel (or gasser). I was told a 3b would require replacing the tranny. I believe the tranny is a r150

Thanks
I think the 1KZ T is the best. Might even bolt up to your trans with a 1KZ bellhousing but you would need some new mounts
There are also 3L, 5L and 5LE,which are versions similar to yours but no factory turbo on them as far as I know.

Your tranny info is on the aluminium plate on the firewall. I would have guessed it to be a R151

The 3B requires a lot of work as it is tall and the light duty Landcruisers like yours have the bonnet sloping down at a greater angle to meet up with the shorter front end

Another option which is potentialy a lot of work ,is the 2.8 HS diesel. Latest reports are that the supply has dried up.

I think the rebuild kts are about $1000 AUD or less. Try aussie ebay for a price .

But I would try and diagnose the exact problem with existing engine 1st
