IMO nothing is too much trouble to set up. Get some friends together and get your wrench on! In fact this weekend there is gonna be a big work day at Lance's (excriment on the blue forum) house. Anyone in the Toledo/ Bowling Green, or anywhere in SE michigan or NW ohio is welcome to come for a day of mods, food, fun, and friends. PM me if you are interested and want directions. Are you talking about the cheapest K&N filters? I haven't seen $1 filters and certainly wouldn't run one if I did. How much do the filters you run cost. When I ran high end synthetics, they were between $10 and $15 a pop. I change my oil every 3,000 mi (I know this isn't necessary, but the more you change the better), so it only takes about 30,000 to 50,000 to pay for the TruFilter to pay for itself, and double that mileage for the PurePower to do the same.
