Maybe K&N isn't jumping on the permanent filters because they make more money selling disposable filters. Or maybe the SS filters aren't as good yet, so they are waiting for them to improve. I'm the guy N-H-B was "arguing" with about the trufilter. I've had mine in for a about 12,000 mi. and I'm still not sure what I think. The trufilter is cool looking, and extremely easy to service and clean, but I just don't know if it provides superior filtration to the High end synthetic (cellulose, fiberglass, or polypro) filters. As NHB stated, the only data I can find is in comparison to the standard paper filters. All the other "data" seems to have little backing either for or against these filters.
I think Trufilter would really be the shizzle if they offered the option of disposable Cellulose/glass filter inserts as an option to the SS filter media. Or even a synthetic insert to use WITH the stainless steel screen. Now that would be sweet. I think I'm gonna design it and sell it and make a billion bucks... i wish.
At this point I don't know what to do regarding filtration. Perhaps another sweet option would be to run a dual filter setup using the Stainless Steel filter AND a high end synthetic.
