If you're a shade tree mechanic, which I'm not much more than, I wouldn't do the timing belt on your own. There's just too much that can go wrong - and it's all serious, blow your engine up type stuff. Dig into a knuckle and see how you do there. That's usually a good litmus for whether you want to do more on your own or not.
