You are correct, I ordered a replacement fan from man-a-fre for what they listed under the Hilux. When i got it the mounting holes on the new fan didnt match up, so i was very aggrevated and shot them an email. Turns out the fan is ment for a 2LT and will cross to "some" 22rs. Mainly the RE. That doesnt make sense as i work for oreillys and have been through all of the parts for the R and RE and the RET and they all use the same fan clutch, as do the deisels. Now I have a broken fan that will cost 78 dollars to replace along with one that doesnt fit in which i lost 31 dollars for. Itll cost more to ship it back to man-a-fre than ill get back.
On the electric fan, I ran 2 12inch e-fans and it would overheat going down the highway at 75+ or on the trail with high rpms. in the city or on a backroad it was fine. Swaped a broken fan and one 12incher and she runs at 190 no matter what. If you do go Electric I highly recomend you wire it to a switch, do not go with the thermal sensor. To much room for error, and if you cross water alot youll want to turn it off anyway.
EDIT: Some of the dodge trucks fan clutchs cross over, along with a Nissan and Mazda/Ford. I just cant remember which ones...
