A .357 mag with shot shells is very effective on snakes. I imagine that a .38 would work nearly as well. FWIW, I have killed a LOT of snakes with a .22 revolver and snakeshot. their heads just kinda disappear...

However, you are in Alabama, so you may need to fend off a 30 ft python or Boa constrictor..... In that, case, I'd go with the Judge....
