It's a Garmin GPS V, basically 1999 technology with a few 2002 era upgrades, it was one of the first units to do WAAS. But it's not the best at seeing through trees so I got a "Poor coverage" alarm 5 or 6 times during today's run when I was in valleys. Looking at the track on the GPS there are several areas where it drew a straight line from where it lost signal to where it re-acquired. It measured 3.5 miles, I am adding a bit to account for the software shortcuts.

So that is a pace of 9:27 per mile. Not bad, but still not 7 minutes.

Today I kicked my own ass though. I ran 4 GPS measured (3.8 indicated + shortcut allowance) miles in 36:40, for a pace of 9:10 per mile. I am quite sore already from today's run and am sure I'll be very sore tomorrow.
Phew. I thought you were getting 25mpg in the '40 .
