All I was saying was if you use an improper lubricant, they can void the warranty repair on the unit affected. I didn't mean void the entire warranty!

I actually had the dealership do the first rear diff oil change so they'd see the dark black oem oil and special metal shaving additives.

I brought the royal purple and the tech wanted to make sure it was approved by toyota before they used it (translation: cover thy assse)

When they saw how black (translated: overheated) the diff oil was and the metal shavings, they didn't charge me labor (I was there getting one of my first year free oil changes).

BTW-I'm aware of the MARKETING reasons behind the name & colour "royal purple" (and it's medieval origins), I just wanted to know if a beneficial additive caused the purple colour, or if it's food colouring!
