No the DC-3 would be the jeep of aircraft. The C-46, that would be the Land Cruiser. Carries more, goes faster, uses less runway, looks cooler, the chicks like it more.

Other than in AK (where Everts still soldiers on with the DC-6 and C-46) these things are losing out to turbine engines. The biggest hurdle is finding an Avgas supplier that can fill those 803 gallon tanks when you need. Hard to make money with an airplane if you can't keep it in the air while waiting for the line guys to refill the truck.

If I had a spare 10K or so, I'd probably go add a DC-3 type, just to have one. They seem awesome from the one time I got to ride in one and the many times I've crawled around them.
