They get less than 10"/year.

What worries me: If it rains at all the water is gonna run right off the roof and track down the pergola, and it will get badly stained by the runoff. AND water is going to get into the fascia board, joists, etc. and ruin everything in the vicinity. I have no idea of your rain schedule there, so maybe it's not an issue at all. If I did something like that here the whole wall would be rotten in a year.
