if you went with posts against the wall on the house side of the fascia, i would make giant shelf brackets extending from thos posts that would brace the fascia boards from underneath. you would need to jack it up slightly when you do this to ensure the posts carry the load.

Yeah, similar thoughts here. I'm going to let it play and see how it feels once its all been in the air for a while. If I have any doubt about it, I'll put in 2 more posts, just under the fascia board, and reinforce it more.
