I just went down and took another look at the glove box. While it is narrow it is also deep I can easily see a small sub notebook on rails sliding out of there sideways and the swivel around for use out over the open door of the box. There would be plenty of room in the unused ashtray to mount an AC/DC converter to power it and Logitech and others make a slew of optical mice and remote pointing devices that I use any way for work and are very reliable. The trick will be organizing the rails and a swiveling platter and cushioning the thing for shock.

Additionally gonna need to select hardware carefully. With space at a premium good AM/FM/CD/DVD unit with a screen that can take mutiple inputs, e.g. GPS or RGB or a small sub notebook that can do those duties using a radio or tv tuner card or USB device. I can see this being a new side project...
