So I made a limon margarita. Replaced the Cointreau™ with limoncello. It's a really good drink, VERY smooth, a little stronger than normal (my limoncello is a little stronger than Cointreau™, and it's at freezer temperature so the ice in the shaker doesn't melt much), very refreshing, but I think without the Cointreau™ orangey taste it's missing an essential margarita flavor. Limoncello most definitely works in this drink as an ingredient however and I want to pursue it further.
So I'm going to start with my regular margarita recipe next and just some limoncello to it. This is gonna be a pretty strong drink. The limoncello is also going to add some sweetness, so I might add extra lime juice too to balance that and bring the alcohol strength back down a bit. It's going to take a few tries to perfect but I expect that it will become my standard and secret recipe.
