Good point about the extra filter causing more work. It probably needs to be changed soon since I've run bio through the system and filter 1 could be causing more resistance from a cleaning in the lines and tank.
Yup, 3" exhaust. That was what was on the stepvan so I just kept the size. For a better explaination of the baffles and their benefits visit here:
