My mom is a speech and language pathologist, she works with quite a few autistic children. Not all of them are highly intelligent, it is a communication disorder that can be very mild to very severe, essentially preventing verbal and even non-verbal communication. Actually, under that definition I guess most engineers can be considered mildly autistic as well
