The standard breathers on Toyotas clog up all the time. I not only extend mine up to top of firewall height but also fit cheap fuel filters to the ends to keep dirt out of the diffs.
90% of seal blowouts on 4wds come from the breathers being blocked and as the diffs heat up they pressurise and blow out the seals. The other 10% are usually caused from mud and debris chewing out the seal.
