shipping tube... or a PVC plans container... or PVC pipe with caps screwed on... I used to ship my one piece fishing rods in a piece of schedule 80 that I put sewer access caps on... I had them so they would lock and you could open from either end. I never broke a rod that way.
I did this after Eastern Airlines delivered one of my favorite fishing rods wrapped in the wheels of a baby buggy when they would not let me carry it on board. That fishing trip was ruined until I found a guy that was leaving the camp who let me use his and then ship them to him in his tube when I was going home. Great guy.
