There are a lot of engines I would put up against the 22RE. I think people sometimes get dazzled by the fact that it's a "22RE!!!!!!" and think they're indestructable. Simply not the case. Plenty of have gone through issues. Now, if taken care of properly, they're are very reliable. But, you can say that about a lot of engines. My father has always bougth GMC trucks, and they get beat on pretty bad. 3-4 of his trucks have over 300k and still going strong. Never had major issues with them, either. Regular oil changes, fluids all changed regularly, etc. and all is well.

3.4L V6 is definitely a great motor (Just wish it had a timing chain!) and I would put it up against a 22RE. Even the new 4.0L V6 would be a great contender.
