Not crazy at all; your points are valid and you definitely know your future plans for an offroad rig. A Montero will suite your needs nicely, especially in the mpg dept. I don't know about the different Montero generations but a buddy has a '92 (I think) and his rear axle is just beefy as the 80 rear axle with huge rotors. Plus, there seemed to be more interior space and that sunroof
