The first time it happened there was no one behind me and it freaked me out, then it happened again a few times with my wife in the truck and she was like "what jacka$$ just hit you?" and there was no one behind me. It seems to happen after I have been driving for a while and not stopping like on the interstate or streets when you catch all the lights green. Has anyone else experienced this? If so what do you think is causing it, or did you take it to the dealer? I am about at that point because I do not want my brakes to fail when I really need them.

It's normal for the FJ's with the 5AT. Some Tacoma's do it as well. Some say it's the transmission, some say it's the A/C compressor (even though it occurs when the A/C and defrost are off). Most everyone with a 5AT in an FJ has experienced this multiple times. Stopping more slowly and or holding the brake more firmly when stopped seems to minimize the effect.
