I drove short-back Monteros for ten years. I know slow, and my 80 is not it! You can install a V-8 and gain some. But you will lose a lot more. The 80 chassis was designed for low-end torque, which any V-8 lacks. You will also lose the legendary reliability that the 80 is known for.
The Land Cruiser is designed to climb over obstacles with incredible agility. That is what it does best. It is not a sports car.
If speed is your thing, GM still sells Corvettes, and Ford would be happy to offer you a Mustang. It is not practical to try to teach a Land Cruiser to be fast. It is a tractor with air conditioning. Making it be fast would be akin to teaching a cow to fly. It is not in its nature, and trying to change that will only confuse the beast!
