I beleive if you put [noparse]<-these->[/noparse] around your link, it will stop any autoformatting from happening
eg. your above link:
IH8MUD.com - Home
with noparse is shown as http://www.ih8mud.com/
(and yes, I had to put noparse tags around my noparse tags to show them
)
