You say you have an '84 FJ40 (you sure about that year?) & the axle you removed was smaller (knuckles, steering arm, etc.) than a stock FJ60? '78 - '83 FJ40's have the same front axle as the FJ60's (less 3" on one side of the 60). And, how is the full floater "stronger" than the semi-floater you removed? Yes My FJ40 is 1984, the las year of production in Chile.
Full Floater are stronger than semi floater, and if you broke a shaft, you can still have traction on 3 wheels (with lockers).
