Last night was the first rain in three months or more, and it amounted to less than three tenths of an inch.
It rains far less up here than it did at my house in Felton, CA (Santa Cruz county) where in the twenty years I was there the average rainfall was 70 inches a year with a peak of 125 inches in 1981 and a low of 45 inches one year. That was rain that fell straight down and hard all day and night for three day stretches.
I haven't seen rainfall to even begin to approach the rainfall I left in the seven plus years I've been in Washington. I hear it comes down pretty good up in Bellingham and over on the peninsula, but in general I'd say from personal experience that the rain in the northwest is a relative myth.
It sure gets foggy and overcast in Gig Harbor though, but I think most of the fog emits from the resident's ears.
