Howdy! Good question. As I recollect, vacuum setup is less aggressive, and perhaps more economical. The mechanical ones are adjustable, and you can feel them when they "kick in". Back in the 60's when I was a crazy hotrodder, I spent a lot of time working on Rochester Quadrajets. Nowdays, I think they are actually made by Edelbrock. Still pretty much the same as the originals. Both old and new are a darn good carb, but a lot more parts and $$$ than my Carterbrock. John
