SC dealer / mechanic who can disable seat belt warnings on LC 200?

I have an LC 200 and my local dealer, West Ashley Toyota, will not disable the seat belt chime.

Does anyone know an SC dealer who will do so?

[I am not looking for advice on whether or not I should wear a seat belt or other non-responsive remarks, thank you]

A local shop run by the former Toyota dealer GM did not have the correct software and was unable to do so.

A lot of my trips are a mile or two going no more than 40 mph and the chime drives me nuts. Much appreciated.

This setting is in the dealers scan tool and they should change it. I know with Lexus its a personal setting that we change for free at the 1000 miles service. I would call the service manager and see what he says, if he won't change it give Toyota a call and ask them for help with the dealer in your area. This has been cover before in this section.

OK, went to dealership today for first oil change (2170 miles, M1, 0W20, takes the specified 7.4 qts- you do have to remove half the engine skid plate to get to the canister filter, major PITA) and asked the tech about turning off the buzzers and beeps and he says he doesn't think you can! I say let's hook up your programmer and see and sure enough was able to turn off all the Smart key buzzers and beeps as well as the seat belt warning buzzers, driver and passenger, and turned off the DRL's as well! Blissful quiet now!!! As an example of how much nicer it is, routine on my return to my home is to undo seatbelt at mailbox to reach out to check mail which USED to result in steady buzz for 30 seconds till silent, then when stopping and turning off rig (smart key in my pocket) opening door would lead to chime chime chime chime chime to let me know the rig was off but a door was open and the key was still inside, then exit rig and open rear tailgate to retrieve whatever resulting in steady buzz to let me know tailgate open with no key in the rig!.. Now, silence at all above! Advise you to to the above at delivery as they tried to charge me $20 for the reprogram (although I had to show the tech how to do it) to which I absolutely refused!

Lou: Do you know if it was separate items for each of these, or was it one setting that disabled ALL chimes?

I'll check with our lead tech tomorrow, it's my understand it
shuts off the seat belt chime and the door chime after shuting off the car and opening the door.

The Lexus scan tool has a line item for the seat belt chime. So the answer is yes you can just turn off the seat belt chime and its got to be the same for the Land Crusier.

I thought I was going to lose my mind from all of the dings and chimes on my LC 200. I happened to stop by Gene Reed Toyota in North Charleston, SC today on the way back into town.

I went in and ended up finally getting them to hook a scan tool (i.e. laptop computer running windows Vista with software for Toyotas, Lexus, and Scions) up to my LC 200.

I actually watched the guy run through every single option on there with the software. He had never hooked up to an LC 200 before. In any event, I actually witnessed all the different screens.

It is very simple, they can simply use a stylus to click "on" or "off" for about every setting. I had them turn off both seat belt warnings, daytime running lights, various other chimes, and also customize certain settings (lowering delay time on headlight shutoff, lowering volume on the few chimes I left on there, etc.). There is no option even for the mechanic to disable any of the GPS / DVD safety features, at least that we could find.

Long story short - I feel like I got a new car all over again. It is very nice not to have to deal with the noise. Highly recommend it for anyone.

The bottom line - get the mechanic in the car and then he will let you change whatever you want. Don't ask the service desk about the seatbelt as they are gonna say "no."

Also - any Lexus dealer should be able to do it b/c its the exact same software.

To be honest, I have so gotten used to it. My only worry with having the dealer do it is that I would change my mind afterwards and then I would have to bug the heck out of them again :P

Its worth it just to see the options with the laptop.

The owners manual lists a lot of them but not all of them (i.e. seat belts).

Its also nice to no longer burn my headlights everywhere I go as daytime running lights. But, the seat belt thing is the best.

My wife's 2008 Sequoia is the next to get the same treatment. Rode in it today and reminded myself what the LC 200 used to be like . . .

You mentioned in your first post that you don't want any advice, but you getting some form me.

Last Tuesday my wife was T-boned in her Sienna by another Minivan. She was wearing her seat belt and our children were properly restrained. Happened 4 blocks from our home and she was doing about 20 MPH. I really feel I could have lost one of them in the roll over if they had not been bucked up properly.

Thank God I'm on Mud doing research on the new 200 VS planning a funeral.

I don't mean to preach. But having such a violent accident so close to home scared the hell out of me.

Yup, if you have ever been in a rollover accident you then realize just how important safety is.

This is why I bought an LC200, which I feel is the safest vehicle on the market today. I was in a rollover a few years ago when I was T-boned by a city bus that ran a light. I climbed out the back window with just a glass cuts on my arms and TMJ in my jaw. Lucky me...

Anyways, this is why I feel the "upgrade" package that I discussed in another thread which is not available with the navigation-only package is a must have as it has pre-tensioners in the seatbelts. If you test them by braking heavy, you can feel them work. They are great and are a must-have in my book when it comes to utmost safety.

i like seat belts too, but i dont need my $60,000.00 car to fuss at me when I'm trying to get my mail or drive 2/10ths of a mile at 15mph to work out in my neighborhood

if i manage to get t-boned in my neighborhood or rollover in it, it was my time

Although I also enjoyed running down to the corner without my seatbelt... or maybe even taking a short ride on a motorcycle without a helmet, it was always those close calls and driving without seat belt tickets that kept me on the straight and narrow...

I also learned the importance of restraints, helmets and fire suits at the British School of Motor Racing... you can actually control the vehicle with more confidence while using restraints - on or off the track.
