Video of the Crawl feature

Toyota gave me a 200-series for a week (and a 2008 Urban 4Runner) and I went out and flogged it. I shot a basic video of the Crawl feature--it's really quite excellent as an off-road aid. The video does not show the perspective, which is a real shame, because I ask you to understand that this truck was going up a steep hill! Not the gnarliest steep ever, but quite steep, wet, and sandy. Crawl was set at setting 1. And damned if it didn't drive itself up. In fact once we got OUT of the truck and it ghost drove itself up! You'll see and hear the various traction controls helping as the street tires slip and slide.

The Land Cruiser came out fine. The 4Runner took some front bumper damage. Both trucks ground on their useless side steps--man, those need to be replaced with real sliders!

Link to the video is below. I've posted some pics showing that hill, too.

I know, huh? yet it really works. Toyota truly needs to put it in the FJ Cruisers and Tacomas, though. With only 6500 or so Land Cruisers coming in, and only DTT and a couple others wheeling theirs, it'll hardly be ever used...

Now that I feel a little better about protecting the 70k Toyota I will be taking it out ALOT more.

This summer will be fun

My brother -in-law races buggy's in the desert near the cali/arizona border and I am going to follow him out in the next few weeks and have some mud/sand fun!

Don't know how many rocks are there though.

I don't get it. Can't anyone drive slowly up a hill like that - what is so special about the truck doing it itself?

Maybe it was the video but it seemed like the crawl control was kind of choppy, gas-brake-gas-brake-gas-brake. The nose of the truck seemed to bob up and down as it moved forwards. What did it feel like from inside?

I've used it downhill (steep slope), and it is really impressive. Takes the guess work out of things, and keeps the rig from sliding down. Other than that, I can only see it being usefull in rocks.

Going uphill...I like to hammer the gas. Crawl control is too slow.

I don't see a lot of applications for the Crawl Control....I do see some though and on a few trails I'd luv it on. The Sutherland trail in AZ is one. Before you get to the "good stuff" you have to go on and off the gas for miles over medium sized rocks rocks. You just get tired of on and off the gas and brake. I'd select speed 3 and sit back for the 45-minute ride in and just steer. Ahhhhh, the life!

Ya, it's funny....for any brand rig....once you have ABS and TRAC systems in play, it's just programming (software) that's required to add "Crawl Control". You already have speed and TRAC sensors...just need the new perameter to include the low low speed cruise settings.

Exactly.

This wasn't meant to be a thrill, after all it is "crawl" mode low speed!

I just think it's cool that a truck can 1/2 drive itself. K.I.T.T., here we come!

Crawl control is so can mix a drink, fix a sandwich, get out and take a leak or changes dvd's while offroading.

I have a funnel in the front seat with a tube that goes through the floor boards...for "those" times
