More Long Ranger Aux Tank Info!

Well I heard from Dave and Ric over at Long Ranger in Austrailia. Here are some of the details on the actual tank and pricing.

The filler is on the Right Hand Side. I wanted to make sure of that.

It comes with everything needed for the install, but there are a few notes about the install that are different for the gasoline version vs the diesel.

The price is 1350 AUS. Which is about $1250 US. Shipping is about $450 AUS which is about $417 US. They will ship to the nearest seaport and then I have to pick it up.

I guess I would have to expect that being that it is about 70 pounds.

I think I am going to order one this week or next.

I cannot wait to carry almost another 18 gallons on board for a total of about 40 Gallons!!!

There's absolutely no reason why ARB shouldn't have these in stock here in the USA. I was talking with Spressomon on the phone today and we were just talking about this situation with auxillary gas tanks. For our 100s of course. However, I can't see it being much different for a 200. US companies need to get off their butts and get some auxillary tanks in stock.

You need to check with them if they truck they used for test fitting had a charcoal canister above the spare tire. Not sure if OZ spec trucks are the same as US spec trucks. Also make sure they know you are fitting to a truck that did not have a aux tank.

Did you read this part on their site.

" Q. Will the factory sub tank fit my vehicle that has only one standard tank.

A. Sort of, You will need to purchase a tank and the mounting straps. Then you need to figure out how you will fill it, how will you get the fuel out of it and how will you mount it, as the captive nuts to bolt it to the floor are not there on these models. If you want it to work automatically like the factory setup you will also need to purchase the transfer pump which is located in the main tank, numerous electronics and plumbing.

There have been estimates of approximately $3000 (as at 2-2-08) for the genuine parts alone from Toyota, then there will be labour on top of this."

Also, just because ARB sells these in Australia does not mean they will not it here. Fuel tanks are a pain to deal with. There are a bunch of legal and emissions issues as well as very costly freight due to the size they take up.

So there are a bunch of reasons why ARB would not do it. I can assure you. Fitting a 2nd tank to a truck that was not fitted with it is a PITA.

I did read that...but I take that question to mean if I was to purchase the OEM factory sub tank and wanting to install it VS the long rangers tank.

It seems they are justifying the reason to purchase their tank VS a factory OEM aux tank.

Do you not read it like that?

Christo,

I am pretty sure it means what dtt255 is saying, ie "don't even consider putting the OE Aux tank in if you are sane". Some versions of the 200 in Australia come with the 45l (13Gal?) aux tank and some don't. There was a lot of discussion that you may be able to buy the 45l aux tank from Toyota then install it. I think the FAQ refers to this.

There are versions of the Longranger tanks for 200's that originally had the 45l tank and those that didn't. The differences are filler necks, pumps and guages etc.

What would be the difference between trying to fit a Long Ranger Aux Tank vs a OE tank if none was fitted originally? I believe only the size of the tank.
