legal issues

Bad news.... I had a long discussion with the chap that made my "cargo net" and he's worried about the liability issues with this "product". On his watercraft products that are shipping into the US, he turns over all his designs to the "dealer" and then simply becomes a contract manfacturer to avoid getting sued over any possible mishaps. He simply doesn't make enough money on this stuff to cover his insurance costs for a product like this.

I've been thinking about this issue myself (and have discussed with my cruiser friend and legal advisor as well). I think considering the discussions about the safety of this product when heavy items are stored in the rear, we can all agree that passengers would be at risk in an accident or off-roading mishap.

I hate to kill this idea but I'm not sure what to do here. I've been doing my summer reading of "King of Torts" by John Grisham and man it's turned me off setting myself up for liability.

This guy is now pretty reluctant to build these.
