And this doesn't appear like some crazy hi-tech technology. What would deter a stateside spring maker to start to make these upon seeing loss of sales from traditional leaf springs to parabolics?

The shackles are extended yes, because of the arc of the springs, stock length shackles ending being too short for installation. The pictures show a few different lifts actually. We got as much as 6 inches of lift and as low as 2.5 to 3 inches of lift by removing/adding leaves and changing shackles. We also loaded up the vehicle with different items and people to see what it would sit and ride like.
I believe the main difficulty in developing these springs is the tapering of the leaves. You can notice that the center of the springs are thicker than the ends of the springs. Parabolics are nothing new to the U.S. market, just new to the Toyota market. A lot of larger commercial trucks are using parabolic springs from what I hear.
